Dropshipper FAQs

General Dropshipper Questions

What is Dropshipping? How does it work?

Dropshipping is a ecommerce model where an online store doesn't physically stock or ship the products. Instead, when an online store sells a product using the dropshipping model, the order is forwarded to a supplier which holds the stock and ships the order directly to the customer on behalf of the dropshipper. As a result, the dropshipper never has to see or handle the products.

What are the benefits of joining Dropped as a Dropshipper in NZ?

If you have done dropshipping before, you know how much of a challenge it is to find good quality products at affordable prices. This is especially true for New Zealand dropshippers, because products that are shipped from outside of the country can often take at least a week to arrive in New Zealand.

Dropped solves this problem by helping you find and dropship from trusted New Zealand brands and suppliers with no minimum spend; we vet each of our suppliers to ensure that they are operate and selling from within New Zealand, and that they are either the original manufacturer or sole NZ wholesale distributor of their products. This means that you can find quality, New-Zealand made products to dropship at affordable prices.

We also charge a flat subscription fee to use the platform and take no commission or transaction fees from your sale, meaning you can keep more of every sale you make.

We also integrate with the popular platform Shopify, and automatically sync inventory, product data, orders, and fulfillment status with your platform suppliers so that you can run your store on autopilot.

What are the requirements of becoming a dropshipper on Dropped?

To use the Dropped platform you must have a business that is operating and selling within New Zealand. That is the only requirement to use the Dropped platform as a dropshipper, but suppliers may sometimes have their own set of requirements before you can dropship with them which you can find on their profile page.

We recommend filling out your Dropped profile to increase your your likelihood of suppliers approving your request to dropship their products.

How does being a dropshipper work on Dropped?

Dropshipping with the Dropped platform is simple. Once you create your account you need to:
  • Connect your Shopify store (optional).
  • Finish setting up your profile.
  • Apply to dropship with a supplier.
  • Publish the products to your store.
And that's it, you're now dropshipping with Dropped!

Once you receive an order for a dropshipped product, the order will automatically be forwarded onto your supplier to fulfill (some suppliers may require you to first pay for the order before shipping, which you will receive an automatic invoice for, most suppliers also let you pay for the order online through their own checkout).

Once the order is fulfilled, you will automatically see the status of the order update in your store as well! If the supplier provided a tracking link, that will also be added to your order automatically, so that your customer can track the package.

Where can I see how much the products will cost me to dropship?

The cost price of the products will be made available to you once you apply and are approved to dropship with the supplier.

Is Dropped really no transaction fees or minimum orders?

Yes! We do not take any commission or transaction fees on your orders, so that you can keep more of every sale you make. Our suppliers also have no minimum order quantity, so that you can try out new brands and lines in your online store, without the risk.

Can I still dropship if I don't have a Shopify store?

Yes! You don't need a Shopify store to use Dropped, everything including product ordering and inventory tracking can be done directly from our platform if desired.

Using Dropped with Shopify does have many benefits though, because we can automatically sync your inventory, orders, and fulfillment status between you and your suppliers.

If you use a different platform and are interested in integrating it, let us know at hello@dropped.co.nz and we can help you explore options.

What am I responsible for as a dropshipper on Dropped?

The following is a set of general guidelines for what you will be responsible for as a dropshipper on Dropped, you should also do your own independent research into what is involved with being a dropshipper and any potential challenges or risks involved.
  • You are responsible for applying to dropship with suppliers through our platform, and providing accurate information about your business.
  • You are responsible for deciding which products to publish to your store, and reviewing the information before publishing it, including cost price and supplier's shipping rates.
  • You are responsible for customer support queries regarding your dropshipped products, but you can consult the supplier for guidance or resolutions where appropriate.
  • You are responsible for paying your invoices from suppliers. Some suppliers may require you to first pay an invoice before shipping the order.
  • You are responsible for reading and following your supplier's policies.
  • You are responsible for requesting refunds or resolutions with the supplier directly in event of packages being damaged, missing, or any other issues concerning your dropshipped orders.

Who covers the shipping cost?

Suppliers show their shipping rates on their profile page, if your supplier charges shipping that will be included in the invoice they send for the orders you have dropshipped with them. We provide a way to automatically sync a supplier's shipping rates into your own Shopify store, so that your customers can pay the supplier's shipping costs as part of their order.

How do I pay for the products on Dropped?

Suppliers will invoice you for the orders that they fulfilled on your behalf. Most suppliers invoice on a per-order basis, meaning you will automatically receive an invoice with instructions for how to pay (or a direct checkout/payment link), but some suppliers instead invoice in bulk weekly or monthly. You will be able to see how you will be invoiced on the supplier profile page once you are approved as a dropshipper.

Technical Dropshipper Questions

Why aren't the products I published showing in my Shopify store?

If they are not showing in your Shopify admin, please first wait up to an hour, as sometimes it can take a while for the product listing to show on Shopify. If after an hour the listing is still not showing, please try reconnecting your Shopify store in the Dropped settings page.

If they are not showing in your online storefront, this may be because when we publish the product to your store we publish it as a draft. This is to give you an opportunity to review and edit the product information before making it active. Please check the product is set to "Active" in Shopify and the channel "Online Store" is enabled.

What is a Cost Price and RRP?

The cost price is what you will be charged to dropship the product (excluding shipping/handling fees).

RRP stands for "Recommend Retail Price", which is the price that the product normally sells for online (as suggested by the supplier).

How do I apply to become a dropshipper?

Simply create an account on Dropped, search for a brand (or search for products you would like to dropship), then apply to dropship on the supplier's profile page. Once you send an application, the supplier will receive the information provided for their review, and will then either follow up with you directly, or accept/reject your request to dropship their products.

How do I place orders with suppliers?

If you use our Shopify integration and have published the products to your online store, your dropshipped orders will automatically be forwarded to the supplier when they happen on your store for fulfillment/invoicing. If you do not use the Shopify integration, you can place orders directly in the Shopify admin.

Why hasn't my order been fulfilled yet?

Please check with the supplier directly for the fulfillment status of an order, you may have due or overdue invoices to pay first before the order is shipped (which you will be able to see in the Dropped admin under "Invoices").

What happens if an order contains dropshipped products from multiple suppliers?

When we process an order that contains dropshipped products from multiple suppliers, we will create a unique order for each supplier on our platform (this will still show as one order on your Shopify store, and fulfillments will still automatically sync with your Shopify order).

I am having an issue with an order or my supplier, what do I do?

Please first try contacting the supplier directly to come to a resolution, but if that fails, you can contact us and we can help mediate the matter where appropriate.

Technical Supplier Questions

What is Cost Price and RRP?

The cost price is what you will be charge to dropship your product to dropshippers (excluding shipping/handling fees).

RRP stands for "Recommend Retail Price", which is the price that the product normally sells for online, as suggested by you as the supplier.

How can I prevent over-selling my products?

If you integrate with Shopify, we let you set an inventory buffer on either all your products or on a per-product basis. The inventory buffer works by setting a product to out of stock once the quantity is equal to or less than the inventory buffer.

As an example, if your inventory buffer was set to "100", this would mean that if you had a product with 100 or less units available, it would show as out of stock on your dropshippers stores.

We recommend setting inventory buffers for suppliers with a lot of dropshippers or popular products, because you may get multiple orders at the same time for a product that is low on stock, which can risk over-selling the product.

Why aren't my products showing up after connecting my Shopify store?

Please first wait up to an hour, as sometimes it can take a while for the product listing to do the first sync from Shopify to Dropped. If after an hour the product is still not showing in Dropped, please try reconnecting your Shopify store in the Dropped settings page.

Please also ensure the product is set to "Active" in Shopify (We only sync active products)

How do I exclude products from syncing from my Shopify store?

You can either set the status of the product to "Draft" or "Archived" in Shopify, or you can tag the product with "DROPPED_EXCLUDE" in Shopify to exclude an active product.

How do I add my shipping rates?

Your shipping rates can be added from your organisation settings page in Dropped, or imported from your Shopify store.

How do I enable products?

Open the product you wish to enable in Dropped, and press "Enable" in the top-right of the screen. The product must have a non-zero cost price to be able to be enabled.
